About the Author

During her nine years as an editor for Disney Publishing, Jessica Ward contributed to more than eighty books ranging from travel guides to cookbooks, collector's art books to children's storybooks. Highlights included the annual Birnbaum Guide to Walt Disney World, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Price of Freedom, Minnie & Daisy BFF Friends on Ice, The Chew: A Year of Celebrations, and Once Upon a Dream: From Perrault's Sleeping Beauty to Disney's Maleficent. Since then, Jessie has written The Ultimate Disney Party Book, Disney Princess Crochet, Disney Frozen Paint-by-Number, Disney Classic Paint-by-Number, and My Little Pony Playtime Stories. Jessie was delighted to collaborate with the DCPI artists in curating this collection. She lives with her husband and daughter in Monroe, Connecticut, where she enjoys paddle boarding, playing volleyball, doing yoga, and (usually) finishing the New York Times crossword.

Praise for The Art of Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse (Disney Editions Deluxe)

"Jessica Ward has produced this lavish book that begins with a commemoration of Mickey's extraordinary career through a comprehensive filmography and a milestone-by-milestone examination of his life and times on and off the screen. All of this is, however, is but a prelude to the remaining 115 pages featuring an exhilarating and imaginative Picture Gallery of artistic interpretations of Mickey by creative working for Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. Using pencil, pen and ink, watercolour, acrylic digital and mixed media, the artists present Mickey in may forms and artistic styles-cubist, minimalist, pointillist, abstract and pastiche. . . . Mickey Mouse is an enduring icon and his worldwide identifiable silhouette is so much part of our popular culture that it remains instantly recognizable and perennially beloved."—Brian Sibley, writer, broadcaster, and Disney scholar

"This book doesn't pretend to be the last word on the 90-year-old cartoon superstar, but it does provide a straightforward survey of Mickey's achievements, from his cartoon and TV milestones to his presence in the Disney parks and beyond. The highlight of the book is an entertaining and free-thinking portfolio of brand-new portraits of Mickey by the staff of Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. These full-page pictures are wildly imaginative and a lot of fun. Some of them deconstruct the character while others see him through a modern prism . . . yet somehow he remains Mickey, no matter the medium or individual approach. That is a profound testament to his identity."—Leonard Maltin, film critic and historian
