This was a life-changing read for me. I began a faith shift away from a fundamentalist faith in the summer of 2014. A friend who had gone through the same process years earlier recommended this book to me. I was so glad she did! The book is a bio of sorts of Sue Monk Kidd's feminist awakening. Kidd asserts that there is very little room made in modern Christianity for women's stories and voices and unique spirituality. The journey she recounts took years, starting with a painful dismantling of her previously beloved faith, and ending with a more mature faith that fully embraces the unknown mysteries of life, and the ecstatic experience of being female. So many of us who go through awakenings and faith shifts feel like we are the only ones who have ever gone through it. Many women have experienced this painful, exhilarating, empowering, expansive experience, and through books like this, we learn that we need not walk it alone.
