Kazuo Ishiguro weaves together, from scraps of myth and legend, a tale of memory, purpose and belonging as twisty and form-defying as the misty land it sets itself in. Rather than defying genre conventions, it adapts them, modifies them to tell a story that should feel familiar to readers of T.H. White, Tolkien or maybe even Joe Abercrombie, but instead the reader finds themself in quite a different place. I cannot recommend highly enough to any fan of esoteric fantasy or literary fiction.
