Ever been really hesitant and eager to read a book? Well this was the case with King of Blood and Battle. On one hand the teasers I'd seen really made me eager, and I'd read and absolutely adored another book by the author, but there were mixed reviews about the book with people either loving it or hating it. Typically I might wait years for the hype to die down before picking up a book, but I decided not to wait too long and pick up the book.
I'm really glad I did, because I enjoyed the heck out of it! While yes, some parts were predictable, Scarlett St. Clair was able to keep it interesting and fascinating. I enjoyed getting to know Adrian through Isolde's eyes and seeing how she evolved and changed throughout the book.
Adrian and Isolde are enemies, and their interactions with each other truly gave me life. I mean they're fighting this intense attraction to each other, while Isolde is also fighting the desire to kill Adrian. Not to mention she can't decide whether to give in or fight. They do certainly steam up the pages, but I loved how there was also a balance with emotional depth and action in the story.
There were moments I found myself grinning and rolling my eyes, and other times I found myself getting emotional. I can say for sure, I did not see the end coming and I absolutely can not wait to read the next book to see how things progress from there.
Finally, if you were on the fence about trying this book, I say it's worth giving it a shot, regardless of what you've heard or read. Who knows, you may even find your next favorite author or a new favorite book.
