I haven't read a book written by James Patterson in some time, and when the news was announced he would be cowriting one with Dolly Parton, I knew I had to read it. I admire her so greatly for her acts of kindness and her talent.
Run, Rose, Run is very fast paced and I quickly found myself engrossed. It has multiple characters, and I enjoyed the back and forth between with the narration by AnnieLee Keyes the jaded ingenue who arrives in Nashville on a mission to make it as a singer, and Ruthanna Ryder, the grand dame of Country music who suddenly retired from the spotlight.
As a romance reader, I was hoping for something more romance heavy, but ended up enjoying the suspense as much, if not more than the romance. I do wish there had been more focus on Ruthanna and James, who went from a longstanding professional relationship to a more personal one. I am always looking for romance centering people who do not typically feature in the genre. That being said, the romantic focus was primarily on AnnieLee and Ethan, which was nice.
As for the suspense, it was intense, and I wasn't sure until the very end about the who and why, which was a surprise. I do wish there had been more at the end explaining how the characters responded after the trauma they'd been through.
Overall, it was enjoyable read. If the duo writes another story together, I will read it for sure!
