|The premise of The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy by Megan Bannen is one of the most unique I've read in a long time. A world where the soul resides in the appendix, and zombies can only die once you puncture the appendix, freeing the soul? That's new to me. Add in enemies to lovers, with the main characters being a zombie hunter and an undertaker, that's different. Then you also have a lovely but wacky family, delicious romantic tension, and altogether you have an amazing story.
I was captivated from the first page and could not put the book down. I found myself laughing, snorting, and bawling my eyes out. There's so much to enjoy, and all the elements are well crafted. This is Megan Bannen's adult debut, and to say I'm impressed would be an understatement. The book is *chef's kiss*- utter perfection, and the perfect story to pick up and be surprised by. I know I will be thinking about it for a long time to come.
